World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball stated this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
